Specifically, their aiming to enable LEAF drivers to use energy reserves of the EV's battery to power their homes during rolling blackouts...such as those experienced after the March 11 earthquake and tsunami.

The Nissan LEAF battery can store up to 24 kWh of energy, according to Hideaki Watanabe, Global Head of Zero Emission Vehicles, Nissan. That's enough to power an American house for roughly a day.
